Maui’s refreshing Hawaiian vibe and tropical scenery make an inspired setting for the practice of yoga on Maui. There’s no better place to try it for yourself, or continue your exercises with one of the island’s certified instructors: both a day of Maui activities and a relaxing afternoon on the beach can become even more enjoyable following a yoga session to limber up. Of these, Island Spirit Yoga offers the most comprehensive variety of classes open to visitors. These range from gentle to dynamic levels of intensity, with other classes focusing on Flow, Hatha and Vinyasa types of yoga also available. Five and ten-class passes make it easy to sample multiple courses. On occasion, the studio also hosts and organizes special yoga talks and other events–check their website in advance to see what may be happening during your next visit!
Bikram Yoga, also located in Lahaina, is a second option ideal for beginners. Their classes are held in a heated studio to help prevent injury and further the cleansing process these postures initiate. Sessions are held throughout the week with extra-early options on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Ask about their Traveler’s Special to get a week of unlimited classes!
Finally, instructor Julie Mitchell also holds a donation-based yoga session on Lahaina’s Airport Beach every Friday at 8 am. Bring a mat and protection from the sun to prepare for an invigorating beginning to another day in paradise.
