Summer Vacation

A very nice relaxing small resort. Nice lawn beach. Good place for a family to spend time together. Good place to swim with a few turtles and enjoy the ocean. Small beach, but still a beach. Several grills for cooking out. Great views.

A Sunset Tradition in Lahaina

Popular among many of our visitors, a Lahaina Maui luau is one of the most incredible activities that guests to our island can experience. Dating back to 1819, a luau is a Hawaiian tradition that began when King Kamehameha II broke the taboos of men and women dining separately and of non-royal people being forbidden to eat certain items. Over time as these special feasts continued to take place, luaus began to develop the traditions of Hula dancing, music and a type of food that gave the luau its name: young taro leaves and chicken baked with coconut milk.

A variety of other foods, some unique to the area, are usually served at luaus: poi, a paste made from corn; poke, a raw fish salad; and haupia, a gelatin-like dessert made with coconut milk. Drinks typically include local selections, such as Mai Tai and Blue Hawaii cocktails.

In present day, much like birthday, graduation and special occasion celebrations, luaus have become more informal gatherings than previous—all you need to bring is your appetite and sense of adventure.

While Kahana Sunset does not host luaus onsite, you can find many local luau locations close to our property: try the Old Lahaina Luau or the Royal Lahaina Luau.
