Maui Activities
Though Maui and the other Hawaiian islands are most famously known for their surfing and other ocean-based activities, there are plenty of points of interest to explore and experience only on horseback. Some Maui horseback riding adventures include, Lahaina Stables’ expedition into the foothills of the West Maui Mountains, and Piiholo Ranch’s tours through vast pastures and towering Eucalyptus, Koa, and Ohi’a trees.
Horseback adventures on Maui are as unique as the Hawaiian Islands themselves; there are many guided horseback riding companies to choose from and they will each provide a different but amazing tour experience! The number of stables on Maui means that you will have plenty of options to choose from for a horseback tour, including some nearby our Lahaina condo rentals. Consider group size as well as location, as a smaller group will almost always guarantee more conversation or help from your guide during the ride. These adventures usually last from 1-3 hours; we recommend wearing sunscreen and appropriate clothing (breathable, loose fabrics work best).
When planning your horseback riding adventure and other activities in Maui, make sure you reserve a time to stop by Makani Olu Ranch—a working cattle ranch located in the West Maui Mountains that provides hour to day-long lessons about riding and horsemanship. Lessons and camps for children are also available! Additionally, Franklin Levinson offers a more philosophical approach to learning about horses with his Maui Horse Whisperer Experience: a full or half day of interaction with horses and optional riding.
