Underwater Adventures in Maui
Some of the best Maui snorkeling happens right in the Kahana bay! Immerse yourself in adventure while staying at our Maui condo rentals and snorkel out from the shore to explore coral reef formations, tropical fish, sea turtles and other marine life. Two dive shops, Boss Frogs and Snorkel Bobs, are within a mile of Kahana Sunset and can get you outfitted with snorkel gear rentals, maps of snorkeling beaches and information about snorkeling expeditions. Or, if you are feeling like trying a more adventurous Maui activity, you can rent scuba diving gear. See our snorkeling recommendations below!
Molokini: If you have ever been snorkeling at Molokini, you know why it is ranked the #1 snorkeling destination in the Hawaiian Islands. With clear water and visibility up to 150 feet, Molokini is home to hundreds of species of fish, coral reefs and other marine life. With a crescent shape Molokini is a volcano crater that has the ability to protect snorkelers from waves and the channels currents. This destination has to be reached by a boat and is best when accessed in the morning.
Turtle Town: Turtle Town is known for its unique underwater lava formations, coral reefs and sanctuary for the protected species of Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle. These charming creatures are known to approach a slow moving snorkeler; be careful not to touch a sea turtle or its habitat, but enjoy the memory and photo opportunity if one swims close to you! Located along the stretch of coastline between Black San Beach and Nahuna Point on the South Side of Maui. Hidden behind the mountains of Haleakala which protects it from the trade winds allowing for a calm, undisturbed surf that is perfect for snorkeling.
