Adventure Itinerary

Explore the Island of Maui

Looking to have some Maui adventures during your stay with us at Kahana Sunset? We’ve outlined a five-day itinerary to get you started with a Hawaii vacation filled with adventure and excitement.

DAY 1

On day 1, you’re easing into the time change and into the saddle for a horseback riding excursion! Let your noble steed guide you along the beaches or high up in the mountains with Hawaiian cowboys. Tours range from morning to sunset rides and some even include lunch!

After riding, come back and relax by the beach for a bit and enjoy Hawaii’s relaxed pace. In the late afternoon, head back to your room to get cleaned up and changed for an exciting dinner.

Tonight, you’re immersing yourself in Hawaiian culture and taking your taste buds on an adventure with a luau! These feasts are a great introduction to our food, music, and dance and you might even find yourself wanting to get in on the entertainment!

DAY 2

For one of the most amazing views on Maui, you’ll need to get up pretty early to make the trek to see the sunrise at Haleakala National Park. Sunrise in the summer can be as early as 5:38 a.m. or as late as 6:58 a.m. in the winter. There are a variety of tour companies that drive you to the summit and then you hike or bike your way back down as you explore the park.

Once you’ve enjoyed your time at Haleakala National Park and are ready to head back toward Lahaina, be sure to stop at the Maui Brewing Co. for a tour! Tours are offered seven days a week at noon, 12:30, 1:15, 2, 2:30, and 3: 15 p.m. Tours are only $15 per person but include a tasting of all the flagship beers, a token for a full serving, and a souvenir glass.

Finally, make your way back to Kahana Sunset and light up the community grills for a homemade dinner near the beach. Watch the sunset and get to bed early so you’ll be well-rested for tomorrow’s adventure.

DAY 3

Rise and shine round two starts your day today as you’ll be leaving Maui to visit Molokai via a ferry ride for your Molokai Ali`i Tour. The ferry departs at 7 a.m. (6:30 a.m. check-in) and will depart Molokai at 5 p.m. Don’t worry, the ferry has a continental breakfast on board so you won’t arrive at the island hungry. The tour includes highlights like Kalaupapa Sea Cliff Lookout, St. Damien, Purdy’s Macadamia Nut Farm, and “downtown” Kaunakakai.

Come back to Kahana Sunset, rest for a bit, and then head off for a delicious dinner, perhaps at Miso Phat Sushi.

DAY 4

Today you’re going to get up close and personal with our island’s beautiful waterfalls with a waterfall rappelling excursion. Your adventure will take place in a 26-acre botanical garden, you’ll have three “drops,” and you’ll get a deli lunch. This tour does last about six hours with hiking to the drops and a safety procedures lesson.

If waterfall rappelling is a bit extreme for your Hawaii travel plans, there’s also a fun and informative Maui Pineapple Tour that takes place every day from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m.

Since you’re already out in that direction, take some time to enjoy the impressive views along the thrilling Road to Hana. This road has more than 600 curves and 59 bridges but the views are unparalleled. This drive can take some time and please be courteous to other travelers on the road.

DAY 5

Start your day off with a sunrise stroll along the beach before making a breakfast of fresh and ono fruits and Kauai coffee of course!

Then, you’re off for a water adventure as you learn to ride the waves with a surfing lesson! There are plenty of wonderful surf schools near Kahana Sunset and this activity is safe for children and adults.

After you’ve had your fill of riding the waves, find a spot for lunch like the popular Shark Pit food truck.

Take the skies in the afternoon or early evening with an aerial tour of Maui. A helicopter tour is one of the best ways to view all the beauty and splendor of Maui; and during the winter, you might even spot a whale or a pod off the coast!

Start planning your adventurous trip to Maui by seeing the other activities you should add to your travel plans!

Easy Beach Access & Family Friendly

It is a peaceful, non-resorty sort of place. There is a lovely beach as part of the complex, and other notable beaches, with stellar snorkeling, only a couple of minutes drive down the road. The grounds are well kept up, and there is a nice pool to dip into.
