Getting Around Maui
We understand that figuring out Maui transportation can be one of the most important steps in planning your vacation. Whether you want a car rental so you can explore the island at your leisure or just need service between the airport and your accommodation, we’ve got a few options for getting you around the island.
Maui’s main airport is Kahului Airport (OGG) or there is a smaller airport on West Maui, Kapalua Airport (JHM), and a smaller airport on East Maui, Hana Airport (HNM). Many flights will have you connect through Honolulu International Airport (HNL) on Oahu, but it’s an easy 30-minute flight from Oahu to Maui.
Maui car rentals are available at Kahului Airport with eight options though it’s recommended to book your rental prior to your arrival, especially if you need a bigger vehicle or ADA accessible vehicle.

Maui has 13 bus routes operated by Roberts Hawaii that services Central, South, West, Haiku, Kula, and Upcountry regions. The buses run seven days a week and runs to Kahului Airport. Fares start at $2 for general boarding or you can buy a daily pass for fixed routes and ADA paratransit service for $4. Children under the age of two and riding on the lap of an adult ride the bus for free. Most routes start service for the day around 6 a.m. and run until about 10 p.m., check the schedule for specific route start and stop times.
If you want to visit the nearby islands of Lanai and Molokai you’re in luck with daily ferry service between the islands from the Lahaina Harbor. It’s about an hour boat ride to Lanai and an hour and a half to reach Molokai.

Expeditions offers several departures each day, leaving Lahaina at:
- 6:45 a.m.
- 9:15 a.m.
- 12:45 p.m.
- 3:15 p.m.
- 5:45 p.m.
The ferry departs Lanai at:
- 8:00 a.m.
- 10:30 a.m.
- 2:00 p.m.
- 4:30 p.m.
- 5:45 p.m.
One-way tickets are $30 for adults.
Molokai Ferry operates Tuesday – Saturday and departs Maui at 7 a.m. toward Molokai and then departs at 5 p.m. to return to Maui.
Boarding is 15 minutes prior to departure and an adult one-way ticket is $60.25.
