7 Family-friendly Adventures in Maui

No need to leave the kids behind when vacationing to Maui. While the island of Maui is often thought of for its romantic appeal for couples, it is also an ideal destination for families as well. From helicopter rides to learning how to surf, there are plenty of family fun activities to enjoy during your visit to Maui. Here is our list of favorite family-friendly adventures in Maui.

Zip-lining through the jungle

A unique and fun way to experience Maui’s jungle, that will keep the kids entertained, is taking a zip-line tour atop the trees. Soar above treetops at speeds of up to 25 miles per hour, where you will encounter local wildlife, beautiful views, and loads of fun. There are several island zip-line companies that offers short and extended tours, depending on your needs.

Touring by helicopter

View Maui from the sky with a helicopter tour. Ride high in the sky and take in views of the Valley Isle below as you learn about the geography and history of the island. Catch glimpses of the Haleakala National Park, waterfalls, plus sugar and pineapple plantations. As Hawaii’s second largest island you will have plenty to look at from above. For local helicopter tour companies, visit here.

Snorkeling

Take your adventures underwater and spend the day snorkeling Maui. Snorkeling is a great option for the entire family as it is less expensive to rent equipment, there isn’t certifications required (like there is for scuba diving), and it is an activity ideal for all age levels. You can enjoy some of the best snorkeling right here in Kahana Bay. Here you can encounter coral reef formations, tropical fish, sea turtles, and other various marine life.

Hawaiian Sailing canoe

A truly unique experience you can only have in Hawaii, is riding a Hawaiian sailing canoe. Ride into Hawaii’s ancient past while touring around on a Hawaiian sailing canoe. This ancient Hawaiian tradition is recreated with local tours and provides a unique perspective of the island.

Hop aboard the Reef Dancer

If you want to explore beyond just the water’s surface but aren’t quite ready to strap on an oxygen tank, hop aboard the Reef Dancer. See fish, coral, and octopus in the deep waters off the coast of Maui from the fully glassed underwater cabin. Viewing is available from either side with educational explanations of what you are seeing. Trust us, the kids will love this one.

Learn to surf

Maui is legendary for its surfing, so why not test your talents with bodacious Maui activity. No matter if you are a beginner or slightly more experienced, Maui offers plenty of surf lesson opportunities. So, strap onboard and ride the waves off into the Maui sunset.

Whale watching

Each year, over one thousand Humpback whales migrate from the cool waters of Alaska to the warm waters of Hawaii. The peak season for whaling watching Maui is from December to April. While there are plenty of whale watching tour companies in Maui, guests of Kahana Sunset can watch from the comfort of your own beachfront condo rental.
