When is the Best Time to Visit Maui?

When is the best time to visit Maui? While we think any time of the year is a great time to visit, certain seasons offer different weather and different things to do on the island. It also depends on what you are coming to Maui for. Some come to take a break from the cold winters up north during the months of December and January while others want to bring the kids along for a summer vacation. Whatever your reasons, here are our tips for when is the best time to visit Maui.

The eweather in Maui offers a mild tropical climate that makes the island enjoyable year-round. With temperatures ranging in the 70s and 80s (Fahrenheit), Maui only has two seasons; winter and summer, with only a few degrees separating the two.

The winter season – November through March tends to be a bit cooler and rainier. The summer season – April through October, is a bit warmer and drier.

Another thing to consider when traveling to Maui is our hurricane season, which is June through November. While hurricanes rarely make landfall on the Hawaii Islands, it is always good to know when the season is when booking your trip.

Winter – (December, January, February)

High season

Winter in Maui tends to be the busiest season for travel on the island. Mostly because people are using this time to escape the cold and enjoy the holidays at the beach! One of the biggest attractions during the winter is whale watching. Humpback whales migrate to the warm waters of Hawaii and are easier to spot as they breach near land.

A popular activity during the winter is to book a whale watching cruise, so you can experience them up close. Peak months for whale watching include January with the season lasting from December through May.

Note: Holiday season, roughly December 20th – January 4th is the highest of the high season in Maui!
